Overview

Responsibilities

As a Materials Team Leader, you will supervise, plan, and direct the daily activities of Material Handlers. You will ensures that all materials for production processes are in the building to support all manufacturing deadlines and delivery performance goals set for the plant and company. Additional responsibilities for a Materials Team Leader will include:

  • Maintain a safe work environment by following and administering Company and OSHA safety rules and regulations, recognizing and reporting safety hazards, conducting ergonomic assessments and interventions, ensuring a clean and organized work environment through daily management of the 6S program, and leading and/or organizing safety training with staff, particularly in the area of Powered Industrial Trucks and equipment.
  • Coordinate departmental activities, schedule work, assign projects, approve standardized work, and provide materials systems guidance for staff, to ensure that delivery performance and inventory goals for the plant are met and ensure compliance with safety procedures at all times.
  • Motivate and lead staff by providing consistent performance feedback on a daily basis; conduct annual performance evaluations, enact formal disciplinary actions and counseling as required, and engage in coaching and development discussions with staff.
  • Conduct or organize training for team members including: materials systems or processes, plant regulations, safety rules and hazards, and other job-related procedures and standards.
  • Lead daily management of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts of the materials team and facility including movement of materials, the standardizations of processes, and documentation of visual stream maps. Work with support staff to improve the administration of cycle counts, material flow, inventory levels, inventory turns, delivery performance, 6S, educational hours, injuries, and lean manufacturing assessment(s).
  • Work in partnership with Materials Manager, Production Planner, and the Lean Business Systems team to establish lean initiatives, project timelines, training needs assessment, and other measurable goals that ensure success for all materials systems and processes; monitor and update output reports as scheduled.
  • Work with Supply Chain Management groups to ensure staff has adequate resources to perform work and services, maintain inventory of required materials, and complete purchase requisitions as necessary.
  • Comprehend and administer all Company policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or internal communications from management team.
  • Fill in for Material Handlers, Operations Supervisor, and/or Materials Manager in their absence(s).
  • Perform special assignments and/or duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and a a minimum of three(3) years of related work experience preferably in a manufacturing environment. A Bachelor's degree from a four year accredited college or university preferred.

    Qualified candidates will also have a working knowledge of Lean tools (6S, Kaizen, etc.), OSHA, DEQ, and EPA regulations as well as quality system (ISO, QS, TS Standards). Candidates will have demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with people, projects, and issues.

    Strong computer skills are necessary with experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications including Microsoft Office. Prior experience with systems such as Enterprise Resource Software, Inventory Management Systems, Production Reporting Systems, Product Data Viewers, and Kanban Software preferred. Candidates must have excellent oral and written skills with the ability to read and comprehend English in work-related documents. Basic math skills are also needed.

    Candidates must be willing to become a First Responder, Forktruck driver, and Aerial Lift driver certified.
